As Summer 2018 continues to whiz by I am astounded that it is time for another unboxing. The theme of this Play! by Sephora July 2018 review is “The Good Stuff.” Initially I have some concerns while opening the box and being confronted by the theme. I am worried that it means that I am getting a lot of repeat products from past boxes, being pushed as “best sellers” or “cult favorites.” As it turns out, The Good Stuff means that the products included are part of a clean beauty routine, meaning they are free of parabens, phthalates, and sulfates. I am not someone that strives to have a clean beauty routine or that focuses on ingredients, but I like the concept and I am excited to try the enclosed products. Time to get into the box.

Boscia Matcha Magic Super-Antioxidant Mask

The first item in my Play! by Sephora July 2018 review is a face mask that just happens to be my favorite color- lime green! This mask claims to reduce inflammation and redness, while detoxifying, decongesting, and de-stressing your skin. The instructions state to apply a thick, opaque layer to your face and let it sit before rinsing with warm water. You are to leave it on for 15-20 minutes. I will probably apply the entire packet.

Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment in Dream

In a past box I received a Fresh lip balm, and I am having trouble understanding how this one is different. It really seems like they just changed the name and color of the packaging. Sephora claims this particular lip balm is “new.” I feel like I got a sneaky repeat. Anyway, this lip balm contains sugar to lock in your lip’s natural moisture. It also claims to reduce the appearance of fine lines and to protect the lips from environmental damage. It can be applied to the lips throughout the day as necessary and features a light and sheer wash of pink tint. The product is a lighter shade of pink than the previous one, but they both smell the same.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel

I find it funny that the bottle of this product says that it is a makeup removing cleanser, while the Play! instructions call it just a cleansing gel that happens to remove makeup, among other things. I plan on using it as a daily face cleaner in the shower. The claims are that it removes excess oil, impurities, waterproof makeup, and it also soothes and tones the skin. The product itself has no scent and is a clear liquid that is thicker than water, hence the gel feel.

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter

Continuing my Play! by Sephora July 2018 review is a facial butter. When it all boils down, the Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter is a daily moisturizer. It says that it nurtures, protects, smoothes, softens, and leaves a glow to the skin. You are to apply a quarter-sized amount to the face and neck morning and night after cleansing. I will use it as my moisturizer before makeup application. The product is a white cream with no scent.

Tarte Color Splash Lipstick – Rainforest of the Sea Collection in Salt Lyfe

I know that every time that I get a nude or mauve lip color that I get excited, and this lipstick is no exception, even though my collection is full of similar hues. I must say this shade is stunning, and the packaging is beautiful. Tarte claims this lipstick line is long-wearing, full-coverage, hydrating, conditioning, and provides a satin finish. In addition, the product should make the lips appear visibly firmer, fuller, and smoother. From the swatch I can definitely attest to the satin finish and full-coverage, but the rest of the statements need to be tested on the lips.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Paaarty

The last item in my Play! by Sephora July 2018 review is a shade of Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blush that is only available at Sephora. Paaary is a pretty rosy mauve shade that would be perfect for daily wear. The finish is matte, and the pigment is buildable. I think it is important that any blush has buildable pigment because that makes it easy to work with to get your custom look, and helps to avoid clown face. If you have a heavy hand with blush I think you would like this shade.

Looking back on this Play! by Sephora July 2018 review it is clear that Tarte is the winner this month. I am surprised that half of the products are all by Tarte, but I must say that the ones that I got I am really digging. That also goes to show that Tarte must have a lot of clean products in their lineup. I do think that Sephora did a good job of keeping up with the theme. I like that I got a decent mix of products, no perfume or primer, and not really any repeats except for the suspicious lip balm. All in all, July was one of the better boxes this year. What do you think about this box? Are you into a clean beauty routine? Let me know in the comments. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
