So far so good with this Play! by Sephora subscription. Upon reading the theme “The Unbasic Basics” for this Play! by Sephora September 2016 review, I really have no idea what to expect. But, let me tell you, I definitely am squealing while pouring the products out of the bag. The products provided truly put a new spin on what you would consider to be the basics in your makeup bag. Let’s get on to the unboxing, swatching, and first impressions.
Of course, the bag is adorable, just as it is every month. I feel that the statement on the bag is highly accurate about lipstick.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Overnight Perfecter
The first item in the Play! by Sephora September 2016 review is Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day Overnight Perfecter. The directions state that you are to apply this product to dry or damp hair before bed, from root to tip but focusing on ends, and then comb it through. In the morning you can wash it out or leave it in. What I find most miraculous is that the product is supposed to last for five washes, even if you use a clarifying shampoo. Also, it is supposed to absorb quickly so that it is “pillow proof.” It is a runny white cream and smells like a nice shampoo.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel
Second is Clear Brow Gel by Anastasia Beverly Hills. This product is definitely squeal-worthy for me, because who does not want to try an Anastasia Beverly Hills brow product?! The applicator is a standard mascara wand. Initially the size of the wand looks tricky to work with, but that is not the case with actual application. Best of all, this product keeps my brows in place, which is a difficult feat to accomplish.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper
Third is the cult-favorite Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper. Here is another “squealer!” The tip is very interesting because it seems like a tapered felt tip, but it is really 200+ bristles, like a paintbrush! Somehow, they stay in shape. This product is very black and just as easy to use at it looks. You can create thin or thick lines in a snap. It also lasts all day.
Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation Facial Creme
Sheer Transformation Facial Creme by Ole Henriksen. This is a curious product, as the package and the description sheet provided by Sephora do not say what benefits you are supposed to get from this product, besides that it can be used as a makeup primer. All I know is that it is a facial cream that looks and feels like a standard white cream. It has no recognizable smell. In testing this product out as a primer, it causes my foundation to never set. Perhaps it is best used as a moisturizer.
Sephora Rouge Brilliance Lipstick in Love Spell
Rouge Brilliance Lipstick from Sephora. The swatch totally turns me off. It is very sheer, not the color I am expecting, and is not buildable at all. It is also extremely greasy.
Atelier Cologne Sud Magnolia
The last item in this Play! by Sephora September 2016 review is Sud Magnolia from Atelier Cologne. I like the scent of the perfume and it definitely smells like magnolia. Besides magnolia, this fragrance also contains bitter orange, pomelo, black currant, and Bulgarian rose, to name a few ingredients. The included postcard is fun and worth putting on display.
In summary of this Play! by Sephora September 2016 review, there are two products that I am not very fond of, but the other products have shot right to the top of my ‘will use this in my routine’ list. I absolutely love getting to play with high-end brands that I just cannot afford, and seeing how their quality compares to drugstore products. Here’s to looking forward to the October box. Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
